Applescript to install custom Final Cut Pro templatesWe had one of our videographers create a template we wanted everyone to use as a lower 3rd in Final Cut. We wanted to do this to have everyone using the same font & font size. Also it allowed the lower 3rd to be animated where before we were primarily using stills. The problem was that it needed installed into a specific directory, and some people's computers had the directory and some didn't. So we put the files out on a local file server and I wrote this applescript to create the proper directory structure and then copy those files down to the local machine.
Test a website in multiple browsersHere's a quick applescript I put together to do one simple thing. It opens a web browser and checks the url in all my browsers. That way I can run some quick quality control on my pages and try to notice problems before users do. ***NOTE: If you don't have some of the browsers I do, when the application launches it will ask you to find the browser app. It currently checks Safari, Firefox, Opera, Camino, Netscape Navigator.
Change Active Directory passwordSome user's can't remember how to go into System Preferences and change their network password when it is time, so I made a little app that launches the screen for them to change their password. I don't know how useful this is because it really is just as easy to open System Preferences to change your password.
Cancel print jobsWe have a ton of users on different floors, and they usually each have multiple printers installed. Sometimes a print job would jam up their queue, but many of them wouldn't be able to cancel it. I wrote this applescript which I would just copy to their machine and give them a shortcut to to run.
Simplest of all scriptsSomeone at worked asked if I could create a script that would launch several applications at once. She said she likes to launch everything she needs when she first comes in and then she walks away from her computer for a few minutes and gets coffee while everything loads (it was an older G4 powermac). I wrote this script so she could just click this one icon instead of clicking several apps and waiting to make sure they all open. It's a very simple straight-foward app. Take a look.
